Privacy is a major concern among businesses, and while many have made the switch to electronic filing, daily operations still require non-computerized documents. In order to maintain client privacy and meet regulations, businesses turn to paper shredding services to protect sensitive information. There are essentially two different methods used for this process: on-site (mobile) and off-site. There are similarities between these options, but it is important to understand each one.MobileMobile or on-site document destruction is a straightforward process. Businesses using this option will have containers that they fill with documents that need to be destroyed. Once the bins are filled, the company schedules an appointment for destruction. A truck equipped with shred machines comes directly to the business, and the contents of those containers are poured into the machine. The containers are returned so they can be refilled. Business owners and managers have the option of overseeing the process. Generally, the mobile option is most favorable as it provides very little possibility of compromised information.
Off-SiteOff-site paper shredding services are used in two different ways; the business either arranges for pickup or brings the files directly to the facility. The pickup off-site option requires the business to make an appointment for a truck. The documents are collected from the company, and the truck moves on to the next location requiring pickup. This process continues until the truck is full. The documents are then taken to the facility, where they are emptied into a large container or pile to await destruction. In some cases, the destruction may take place on the same day, but often it will be completed the following day. Not all shredding companies offer this option. Some businesses prefer dropping off the documents requiring destruction. Companies using this method simply take their sensitive files directly to the facility. Once there, the documents are placed in a locked area for destruction on the same day. Clients witness the documents being placed in a locked container at drop-off.
While each of these options for paper shredding services end up with documents being destroyed, there are differences in the safety of each one. If you want a destruction option that provides the most security, and minimizes any potential breaches in privacy, the mobile method is the best choice. Documents have very little opportunity to fall into the wrong hands, which means your files and business are protected from potentially damaging leaks of personal client information.
